2004 Safety Awards Program 2004 Safety Awards Winners

The CGPSA represents the broad spectrum of service and supplier companies which contribute to the success of the Oil and Gas business in Canada. A corner stone of success is the awareness and implementation of safe operating practices. The most important aspect of a good safety process is that is seen to be imbedded in the company’s every day practices. This award program celebrates that reality and by participating, your company contributes to lifting safety awareness to the ultimate elimination of lost time and deaths due to preventable accidents. Therefore, CGPSA seeks to support and acknowledge member companies in celebrating safety milestones through the public presentation of awards at the Annual Maintenance Conference held in Calgary.

Award Categories:

Category A:  CGPSA Consultants/Contractors
Predominantly (>50%) office hours worked (to include consultants, engineering contractor, etc.)

Category B:  CGPSA Service/Supply
Predominantly (>50%) warehouse/service/supply hours worked (to include pre-manufactured goods suppliers, chemical suppliers, etc.)

Category C:  CGPSA Shop Fabrication
Predominantly shop fabrication (>50%) hours worked (to include fab shops, compressor and pump packagers, etc.)

Category D:  CGPSA Field Construction
Predominantly field construction (>50%) hours worked (to include all mechanical and electrical contractors).

 Application criteria:

  • Deadline for 2004 entries was March 12, 2004

  • Your company must be a current CGPSA member
  • There is no cost to member companies for the awards

Presentations will be made at the Safety Awards Ceremony immediately following the Maintenance & Safety Conference held in Calgary, Alberta on April 16.

Awards will be presented to all responding CGPSA member companies that had no lost time accidents for the prior year. In addition, there are special awards, which recognize significant levels of achievement. The definition of a lost time accident is an injury, which prevents the injured individual from working a complete regular shift.

CGPSA member companies who have ongoing operations in more than one category, may, at their discretion, elect to combine all hours and accident/incident data into the predominant category (predominant by number of hours logged).

GAS SAFETY VARIANCE
A new version of the Gas Safety Variance for "Engineered Designs for Site Specific Gas Fired Equipment" is available at www.municipalaffairs.gov.ab.ca/ss/Gas.cfm This variance was achieved by a committee which included Alberta Municipal Affairs-Safety Services, the Safety Service Council and CAPP. The variance addresses the ability of individual engineers to design, construct and certify site specific gas fired equipment without having to have the equipment meet the new CSA-B149.3-00 Certification Code. This notice is being provided as a service to our members and the members of CGPA who are directly affected by the imposition of this new regulation.
