2004
FORECAST
President's
Report:
I am
delighted to have the opportunity to take on the role as president of
the Canadian Gas Processors Suppliers Association for 2004.
2004 will be
an exciting year; your board will continue to promote the interaction
and exchange of ideas and technology for those working in the gas
processing industry. To this end, we will continue with our four
technical sessions beginning with the CGPSA / CGPA Operations /
Maintenance Conference and Safety Awards banquet in April.
We will, of
course, host our very popular golf tournament at Earl Grey in September
as well as our President’s Ball in late November. For details about
these and other events, please visit the Event Program page here at the
website and mark your calendars.
I would like
to strongly encourage our members to become or continue to be, actively
involved in this Association by attending the various functions,
volunteering to assist with programs, and serving as Board members.
Remember, this is YOUR Association. It is only through individual
involvement that the Association and we, as individual members can grow
and benefit.
I would be
remiss if I didn’t thank Fluor Canada Ltd. for providing me with the
support and the opportunity to serve on this prestigious Board.
I look
forward to working with our new Directors and returning Board members.
We have an enthusiastic Board this year and we will continue to work for
our membership in achieving the objectives of this Association. Please
feel free to contact me with your comments or suggestions at
President@cgpsa.com.

2003
YEAR IN REVIEW
Past
President's
Report (29-Jan-03):
After successfully navigating our
43rd year of operations in 2003, I am left with the feeling
that, although we may not have set records or achieved extraordinary
results, our Board of Directors did have a great deal of fun along the
way. It was also obvious to me that our representatives continued to
enjoy the various events and activities arranged by our volunteer
Board, particularly the Annual Golf Tournament.
While the Northern Committee folks
had the misfortune of holding their Drayton Valley tournament on a truly
miserable day, the September tournament in Calgary enjoyed fair weather
and was, once again (from what I remember), an excellent day! Rather
than recap the entire program here, I commend you to our 2003 CGPSA
Annual Report which you can find online
HERE .
With respect to the website, I had
hoped to migrate our membership database to, and provide online
E-Commerce support to event and program registration at, this
website in 2003. It was not to be. A combination of issues conspired
against us - in particular, logistics problems, personal time
constraints, and a movement to investigate combining our operations with
the CGPA. As Past President, I will continue to work to have these
website initiatives implemented, and to offer my assistance as needed to
our new President, Brendan Macken, and other members of our Board.
To get an ideal of how our program
was being received by our representatives, and what things we could
change to make the CGPSA more valuable to suppliers in the industry, I
contacted most of our Primary Representatives during 2003. While no
serious issues nor innovative suggestions surfaced, I did sense
confusion regarding the role of the CGPSA vis-a-vis the CGPA. By and
large, I believe it is important to maintain a desirable and valued
level of service to folks in the industry who are having difficulty
deciding on which side of the fence they should be. Of course, I am
referring to the mid-stream folks, and consultants and contractors who
offer services and end up in contracts acting as processor
representatives.
One possibility to overcome this
problem is to combine operations with the CGPA. While this is not a new
idea (it was last discussed in depth in 1994), it has generated
considerable debate at recent Board meetings, to the point where a joint
committee with the CGPA was struck to investigate all aspects of such a
merger. Committee work is in the early stages, and open forums are
planned with CGPSA member representatives and CGPA members to review the
potential benefits and problems. Whatever your personal situation should
be, I encourage you to study the issues and make your wishes known,
whether your comments are solicited or not.
Looking back on 2003, we did set a
couple of operational milestones. We have managed to convert all
non-financial records to an electronic archive, which involved scanning
over 16,000 pages of Association records. We also went to a fully
automated website-based registration process for the golf tournament,
which reduced our organizational load by an estimated 200 hours. How
about that! Because of these and several other operational improvements,
I think of 2003 as mostly a year of organizational effectiveness
improvement. By the way, if you have any CGPSA documents squirreled way
and you feel they should be in our archive, please let me know by email
- just click on my name below.
I usually resist singling out one
person from a great group of folks such as the directors on the 2003
Board. However, I can’t finish this report without praising the efforts
of our retiring Entertainment Director, Peter Zeglen. His extraordinary
efforts throughout the last two years have helped make this job a
pleasure. To the other members of the Board and the many, many
volunteers who made 2003 a successful year for us, please accept my
personal thanks and very best wishes in future endeavours.
